Bratislava to host European Labour Authority

The Slovak capital Bratislava has been selected as the seat of the future European Labour Authority. In the vote that took place at the Employment, Social Policy, Health and Consumer Affairs Council meeting in Luxembourg, Bratislava received 15 votes out of 28, thus leaving behind the other candidates: Sofia (Bulgaria), Nicosia (Cyprus) and Riga (Latvia). "I consider it a great success that we managed to win in the first round," stated in his first reaction the Slovak PM Peter Pellegrini. The European Labour Authority will be the first European agency seated in Bratislava. This institution shall support member states in the enforcement of EU legal acts in the areas of labour mobility and social security coordination and provide information to individuals and employers in cross-border labour mobility situations. The Labour Authority should move in October into a new building on Landererová street in downtown Bratislava and the Slovak Government is preparing an assistance service for the Agency's staff, to help them handle various official matters in the country.
