Slovak police kept track of Italian Mafia ´Ndrangheta's activities in eastern Slovakia in 2013, reported the Italian Public Broadcaster RAI on Saturday. The daily wrote that the attaché of the Slovak Police in Rome, Dáša Macková, reported to the Italian anti mafia organisation DIA on the activities of Antonino Vadala, who allegedly smuggled drugs to and through Slovakia. Moreover, Slovak Customs reportedly had their seat in a building belonging to Vadala's company in eastern Slovak town of Michalovce. However, last year the former Slovak Police Corps President Tibor Gašpar insisted that Police had no information about Vadala's activities. Now, Gašpar and the current Police Corps President Milan Lúčanský, who was vice president in 2013 blame one another for not taking action at the time. Reports about the Italian Mafia in eastern Slovakia were first mentioned by murdered journalist Ján Kuciak in an article which was published after his death in early 2018.
