Potatoes 60% more expensive than previous year

Potatoes are 60% more expensive than in the previous year in Slovakia. Their average price is the highest in the last 20 years as shown in the analyses of the Slovak co-operative farm. In April 2019, a kilogram of potatoes was sold for EUR 0,95 in average while in April 2018 its price was EUR 0,60 per kilo. According to analyst Eva Sadovska, Slovakia is not the only country experiencing the increase of the price of potatoes in shops. All of the V4 countries, including the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia, have recorded this trend. The problem was first detected in the Czech Republic which identified the reason behind it as the worse crop last year due to droughts as well as the storing capacities.
