Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev assured Slovak Prime Minister Peter Pellegrini (Smer-SD) that Slovakia could continue counting on Russia as a reliable partner for energy supplies. The Slovak premier expressed his wishes that both countries could have friendly, open and mutually respecting relations, "like modern countries of the 21st centuries should have". Both sides signed an agreement on co-operation between Slovakia's dominant power utility Slovenske elektrarne and Russian state-owned nuclear fuel producer TVEL on nuclear fuel supplies for power stations in Slovakia. The contract with TVEL is a result of an international tender and has been signed for the 2022-2026 period with the option of an extension until 2030. The fuel will be used at Mochovce and Jaslovske Bohunice power stations, including the two Mochovce reactor blocks that are currently being constructed.
