Incident on Slovak part of Danube

Two hours after the tragic crash of cruise ships in Budapest, Hungary, a serious collision endangered the Bratislava section of the Danube, the Slovak Water Management Enterprise informed on Thursday. A cargo lighter weighing 1200 tons was drifting in a non-controlled manner down the shipping track towards the bief Hrušov which might have caused a collision with passenger vessels located at that time in Gabčíkovo canal lock. Thanks to the quick intervention of an ice-breaker boat, the cargo lighter was caught and anchored. Due to the rising level of the Danube that reached 7 meters in Bratislava on Thursday evening, the first level of alertness was declared.
