Bratislava to bolster security in public transport

Following last week's attack on a middle-aged couple on a public transport bus in Bratislava, the city intends to bolster security measures and make cameras mandatory equipment on all public transport vehicles to be procured in the future. Meantime, Bratislava Public Transport company plans to equip all vehicles operating at night with a functional camera system. The incident occurred on a number 83 bus, when a group of four as yet unknown passengers, who were acting disorderly and loud, responded with a physical assault on an elderly married couple who had politely rebuked them. About twenty other people were on the bus, yet had gone by the time a police patrol arrived. The incident prompted Bratislava Mayor Matúš Vallo to convene an extraordinary meeting of the city management, Public Transport Company, police, city police and city authority experts. Vallo conceded that the attack had occurred on a bus without a security camera system.
