Europol cybercrime unit cracks communications of Marián Kočner

The investigation into the murder of journalist Ján Kuciak and his fiancée Martina Kušnírová is now likely to progress significantly. According to the Denník N daily, investigators have managed, with the help of the encryption application Threema, to decrypt the electronic communications of Marián Kočner, the controversial businessman charged with ordering Kuciak's murder. It was Europol's science and technology center for cybercrime research that managed to gain access to the data. Kočner's communications before, during and after the murder will reportedly help police in subsequent steps of the investigation. Ján Kuciak and Martina Kušnírová were murdered in their home in February 2018. Kočner, charged with economic crimes as well as ordering the murder of the investigative reporter, is in custody.
