Flood alert in northern Slovakia

After days of heavy rain, the Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute issued a flood alert in Slovakia. The warning of the highest, 3^rd degree was declared for the districts in northern Slovakia: Námestovo, Tvrdošín, Čadca and Liptovský Mikuláš. Warning of a lesser degree was issued for the regions of Záhorie, Orava, Liptov, Považie, and Nitra. The situation will continue also in the coming hours and days. In the northern parts of the country more than 60 millimeters of rainfall may occur. Due to the saturation of the river basins in these areas, the water levels of the rivers and streams are rising significantly and may result in floods.
