This year's top destination in Europe, as chosen by Lonely Planet's travel experts, is the High Tatras, Slovakia. There, according to Lonely Planet's website, travellers can see mountains, waterfalls and even brown bears, which have been eradicated from most other regions of Europe. The top destinations also include Madrid in Spain and the new Arctic Coast Way in Iceland. On Tuesday, Joe Reville, Lonely Planet's General Manager for Central Europe, symbolically handed over the award to the local tourist organisation of Vysoké Tatry. The head of the tourist organisation Veronika Littvová believes that this recognition will bring more foreign visitors to the Tatras, while adding that the number of visitors needs to be regulated so that it does not harm the natural protection of the area.
