Writer Dusan Mitana dies at 72

Well-known Slovak writer, publicist and playwright Dusan Mitana died early Wednesday morning at the age of 72, his wife reported on the same day. Mitana was among the first Slovak authors of experimental and postmodernist prose. His stories, novellas and novels are characterised by the contrast and absurd juncture of a simple story or experience with elements of excitement, hyperbole, secrecy and dreams. Mitana's debut work Dog Days (1970) is considered one of the best collections of short stories in Slovak literature. He is also the author of several television and film screenplays. In January 2019, the president awarded him the state medal of Ľudovít Štúr, First Class.
