Should basic rights and freedoms clash with other basic rights, freedoms and values, it's important to look for an appropriate balance between them, ombudswoman Maria Patakyová stated in Parliament while presenting her last year's activity report. Her office registered 178 infringements of basic rights last year, mainly in the area of the protection of rights of children, seniors and the marginalised. Patakyová thinks more needs to be done in the fields of access to education, escaping generational poverty and practices of the police.
