Most EU citizens support the Union

As many as 68% of people living in 27 EU member states believe that EU membership is beneficial for their country, indicate the results of the Eurobarometer research. This opinion is shared by the majority of the citizens in individual member states apart from Italy. However, citizens of no EU member country showed an interest in leaving the EU, including the UK. Staying in the EU has the strongest support in the Netherlands (86%) and the lowest in the UK (45%) and the Czech Republic (47%). In Slovakia, 69% of people would support staying and 11% are for leaving.

On the other hand, the survey indicates that 50% of people think that the situation in the EU and their country is not developing in the right direction. The survey was carried out in March 2019 and the results were practically the same as in September and October 2018, proving the stability of the trust in the EU. The Eurobarometer survey looks into the public opinion of EU citizens and is carried out on a sample of approximately 26,000 to 27,000 people.
