Defense lawyers who are assigned to represent clients who cannot afford to pay for their legal representation will be registered in their own separate register. Under the new system, ex officio defense lawyers will be assigned by random selection, whereby the Justice Ministry will administer the new register. The Slovak Bar Association now must update the list of defense lawyers. The new rules will also regulate the number of defense lawyers available to provide this service for particular district courts.
