Slovakia is set to sign a Council of Europe Convention on an Integrated Safety, Security and Service Approach at Football Matches and Other Sporting Events, with Interior Minister Denisa Saková (Smer-SD) submitting a draft for interdepartmental comments. The convention binds its signatories to draw up policies for observing the law in stadium and arena stands. It chiefly concerns expressions of violence and racism that are connected to football hooliganism. The aim of the convention is to create a safe atmosphere in stadiums and arenas that would be inclusive for all elements of society, including children, seniors and disabled people.
On May 1, the stadium in Nitra, western Slovakia suffered damages during the finale of the Slovak Cup between Trnava and Žilina. There were 200 police officers and 200 security workers at the stadium. In spite of this fact, fans brought pyrotechnics and masses of fans entered the pitch after the end of the match.
