The Slovak Prime Minister Peter Pellegrini (Smer-SD) will be received on Friday by US President Donald Trump in the White House, where they should hold talks on, among other things, economic and defence co-operation. In the case of the latter, they should tackle the modernisation of the Slovak Armed Forces and increasing expenditure on defence in accordance with the obligations resulting from Slovakia's NATO membership. The two should also address the Defence Co-operation Agreement (DCA) between Slovakia and the USA. Pellegrini signalled that the agreement would not be the primary topic of the meeting. The prime minister believes that they will also open the topic of customs duties. Pellegrini would like to see customs duties on industrial products drop to zero, not only from the USA to the EU but also vice versa. Trump is considering introducing new customs duties on cars imported from the EU. He also gave an order to the US Commerce Department to deliver a study on whether cars from Europe threaten the USA's national security. In February the study proved that they do. Trump has 90 days to make a decision.
