Štefánik voted the Greatest Slovak

Milan Rastislav Štefánik became the winner of the national TV poll "The Greatest Slovak" run by public broadcaster Radio and Television Slovakia (RTVS). Widely regarded as one of the most significant personages in Slovakia's modern history, Stefanik was an astronomer, military pilot, French army general and one of the first Slovaks to climb Mont Blanc several times. Most notably, he was instrumental in the foundation of Czechoslovakia in 1918. The politician and Slovak language codifier Ľudovít Štúr and the Catholic priest, political prisoner and a philanthropist Anton Srholec respectively took second and third place in the TV poll.
