Judges in Slovakia will get back part of their salaries which they lost in early 2011 due to the amendment to the law on salaries for some constitutional officials. This was part of the austerity measures introduced by the former government of Iveta Radičová.
Judges’ salaries were directly tied to the budget deficit and GDP growth. The measure caused judges’ salaries to fall by almost €230 per month. They had been receiving reduced pay for almost six months, until the Constitutional Court suspended the effectiveness of the changes. Now they will receive about €3.75 million in compensation.
