Only 45 percent of Slovaks trust the Slovak police. According to the results of Eurobarometer 2018 survey, Slovakia remains one of the countries with the lowest confidence in the police. The European average is 72 percent. As the president of the For Better Police Initiative, Branislav Diďák, said at Wednesday's press conference, "trust in the police will arise when a whole set of measures is taken". The lowest confidence towards the Police Corps was felt in March 2018, shortly after the murder of the investigative journalist Ján Kuciak and his fianceé Martina Kušnírová. At that time, only 38 percent of the Slovak population trusted the police. Political analyst Pavol Baboš stated for the SME daily that 45 percent from November 2018 means a return to the previous state, not a significant improvement. In comparison, in Austria 77 percent of people trust the police, 63 percent in the Czech Republic and Hungary.
