With the EU directive on dual quality products being approved last week, the Agriculture ministry is now urging producers to stop producing double quality products. The EU directive, which is yet to be implemented in Slovak legislation, allows for harsh penalties against producers of double quality products. On 17 April the European Parliament okayed the directive, which extends the current definition of misleading commercial practices so as to possibly include double quality products among those practices in the future, if the different ingredients used cannot be justified objectively. "As soon as the European legislation enters into force, we won't tolerate such deceptive practices," said Agriculture Minister Gabriela Matečná (Slovak National Party/SNS) on Tuesday.
