Prime Minister Robert Fico will once again face a no-confidence vote in parliament on Thursday, February 13. The vote is being organised by Opposition parties over the emission-quota scandal from 2008, as well as the ruling Smer-SD party’s avoidance of discussing the issue in parliament.
During the RTVS political discussion show 'O 5 minut 12' (5 Minutes to 12) on February 9, Interior Minister Robert Kaliňák said that the Opposition parties’ attempt at another no-confidence vote is simply a political move set right before the presidential elections with ulterior motives. In September of 2013, Opposition MPs failed in their attempt to oust Prime Minister Robert Fico with a similar no-confidence vote regarding the acquisition of the domestic gas arm of gas distributor SPP. At that point 59 MPs voted in favour of the no-confidence vote and 82 voted against it.
