Two candidates for the new Police Corps president

The parliamentary defence and security committee recommends that Interior Minister Denisa Saková (Smer-SD) appoint as new Police Corps president incumbent acting police chief Milan Lučanský or the police attaché in Prague Ivan Ševčík. Committee members decided on these two names after a vote on Wednesday. Interior Minister Denisa Saková said she would announce her nomination for the post after meeting both candidates in person. The new Police Corps president will be appointed for four years with the possibility of re-appointment. Under the new rules, the minister can dismiss him for serious reasons, which, however, will have to be approved by at least three-fifths of the members of the parliamentary defence and security committee. Changes to the procedures were introduced following the mass protests in spring of 2018.
