The outgoing Finance Minister Peter Kažimír (Smer-SD) handed in his letter of resignation to the Presidential Palace on Thursday. The day before, on Wednesday, he attended his last Cabinet session, after which the PM Peter Pellegrini stated that Kažimír would be missed. "He was one of the longest-serving ministers in Europe at the moment, and he's leaving for the important post of governor of the Slovak central bank [NBS]," stated Pellegrini. The Smer-SD party presidium should choose Ladislav Kamenický as the new finance minister. Kamenický is currently an MP leading the parliamentary Committee for Finance and Budget. Until Kamenický is appointed, PM Pellegrini will take charge of the Finance Ministry. The new minister should take up his post after Easter.
