Forestry Company will plant over 12 million trees

State-run forestry company Lesy SR will plant more than 12.5 million trees this spring, including spruce, pine, fir, oak, larch, and maple. The trees will be planted in areas where forests have been damaged by some calamity, with two new trees to be planted for each tree logged. So far this year, 2.5 million trees have been planted, especially in the southern districts and on southern slopes, where the growth of vegetation begins earlier in the year. In the course of April and May, reforestation work will move into the colder areas of central and northern Slovakia - where snow and frozen soil still complicate planting - and work will begin in tree nurseries where seedlings are grown.
