On Friday, Environment Minister László Sólymos announced that Slovakia would ban single-use plastics as of January 2021. The ban should become part of the amendment to the Waste Management Act. Annually, about 14 thousand tons of plastic products not used for packaging arrive on the Slovak market with single-use plastic products such as straws and plastic cutlery making up the majority. According to the Ministry, these can be replaced by more ecological alternatives.
