Chinese investments in Slovakia decrease

The number of Slovak companies with a Chinese owner has dropped year-on-year, and the volume of Chinese capital subscribed in the share capital has also recorded a downward trend for the first time, TASR learnt on Wednesday. According to the Bisnode consulting company's analysis, there are currently 1,309 Chinese-owned companies in Slovakia. Their number dropped by 0.02% year on year. "Although this is not historically the lowest number of companies, the decline in companies is significant," said Bisnode analyst Petra Štěpánová.

Since 2011, when the largest number of companies with an owner from China operated in Slovakia, their number dropped by approximately 21.5%. "By contrast, the volume of Chinese capital increased to a record €32.2 million in 2018, when it reached its ceiling. The results for the first three months of this year indicate a decline in this category, too," said Štěpánová.
