Discussion on improving maths education started

The Education Ministry opened a discussion aiming to improve the maths education of students, wrote the TASR press agency on Thursday. It is a response to the requirement from Universities and employers for students to improve in this field. "Graduates have weak analytical and critical thinking, and insufficient abilities in problem solving. Put simply, we will not achieve significant progress in digital skills without maths," said Mário Lelovský of the National Union of Employers. "First of all, we want to change the way of teaching. Maths should be created not taught, " said Dušan Šveda of the Slovak Mathematical Society.

One of the planned steps is introducing maths as a mandatory subject to be taken for the Maturita final exams at Gymnázium type secondary schools.
