German carmaker Volkswagen should produce the most luxurious products in its Bratislava plant, said Slovak Prime Minister Peter Pellegrini last week after he returned from Germany, where he met with Volkswagen's management. In February 2019, the car maker announced that as part of its optimisation process, it might fire up to 3,000 workers in Bratislava. According to Pellegrini, the management assured him of their satisfaction with their facility in Slovakia and plans to continue the production.
Pellegrini also assured the car maker that the Slovak Government intends to be a cooperative partner. A set of measures should be submitted this week for the whole automobile industry, designed to guarantee the predictability of the legislative and business environment. The plan should include an action plan to support electromobility. Moreover, Pellegrini plans to meet all owners of large carmakers in Slovakia.
