As of April, children suffering from brain tumours, serious head and spine injuries, and diseases of the central nervous system will be treated in a new state-of-the-art neuro centre at the Children's Hospital in Bratislava (NUDCH). Previously children underwent brain and spine surgeries in the adult clinic at the nearby University Hospital. In the new centre, teams of medical experts plan to use modern medical equipment including a robotic system to perform a wide range of interventions including spinal cord cleft surgery during intrauterine development, increasing the likelihood that children will be able to walk. Using a high performance endoscope will reduce the need for open surgery. "Top equipment is the basis for safe and patient-friendly medical procedures. We work with the brain and spinal marrow, the most valuable and sensitive elements in our body, whose damage has very serious consequences," said Bruno Rudinský, a doctor at the new centre.
