The Central Slovak Institute for Cardiovascular Diseases in Banská Bystrica will be expanded, with the construction of a new Preventive-Outpatient and Diagnostic Centre in the neighbourhood of the institute, worth €9 million. Its director, Juraj Frajt, stated that the institute's current building is only ten years old but has had to deal with an enormous increase in activity. "Ten years ago we examined 31,000 patients in our outpatient clinics, while last year this number was over 48,000 patients," he said. The construction is expected to be completed in mid-2020.
