The number of return flights either to Bratislava or Vienna from abroad for the 2019 presidential election weekend (March 16-17) recorded a year-on-year spike of 94 percent, according to data of the Pelikan travel agency. "The most frequented foreign destinations on the election weekend were Switzerland, Spain, United Kingdom, the Netherlands and France. All these countries have a significant proportion of Slovak expats. The only explanation for this hike is the interest of the Slovaks living abroad in exercising their right to vote as it isn't possible to do so from outside Slovakia," said Jozef Rybar of Pelikan. He adds that it will be interesting to see whether the same interest occurs during the time of the run-off round of the presidential race, slated for March 30, when Zuzana Čaputová will square off against Maroš Šefčovič for the top office.
