Presidential election on Saturday

On March 16, approximately 4.45 million eligible voters will be electing the new head of state. Every voter, i.e. a citizen of the Slovak Republic, who has reached the age of 18, can vote for their favorite from 7am to 10pm in one of the 5,940 polling stations. Voters will be choosing one from 13 candidates. According to the Constitution, the candidate who receives an absolute majority of the valid votes of eligible voters is elected as President. If none of the candidates obtains the majority of voters needed, the second round of elections will take place in 14 days' time, on Saturday 30 March. In the second round of the elections, people will chose from the two candidates who have received the highest number of valid votes in the first round.
