Employment increased in January in most sectors

Employment in Slovakia rose year-on-year in most sectors in January 2019 - most rapidly in accommodation, by 8 percent - the Slovak Statistics Office reported on Thursday. Annual increases were also recorded in the following sectors in January: in construction, 7.4 percent; in selected market services, 6.9 percent; in restaurants and pubs, 5.2 percent; in information and communications activities, 4.6 percent; in the sale and repair of motor vehicles, 4.4 percent; in transport and warehousing, 3.8 percent, and in manufacturing, 0.8 percent. Conversely, employment in the retail sector went down by 1.4 percent, while in the wholesale sector it fell by 1 percent.
