On Wednesday, the Slovak government approved the ratification of the Protocol on North Macedonia's NATO Accession Treaty, recommending that Parliament should also express its consent. The protocol will take effect when all NATO members have announced their consent to the US Government. Subsequently, the NATO secretary-general will submit an accession invitation on behalf of all contracting parties to the Government of North Macedonia. Macedonia and Greece in January 2019 ratified an agreement based on which the former has been officially renamed as North Macedonia, thereby ending a dispute between the two countries that had lasted almost 30 years.
