Observers from the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, a body of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), have arrived in Slovakia, wrote the TASR press agency on Wednesday. Their aim is to evaluate the process of the upcoming Presidential election and its preparation from the perspective of meeting international rules and commitments.
At the same time, clashes occurred over the fact that voting from abroad is not possible. There is no legitimate reason why 350,000 Slovak citizens can vote in the general elections, but not in the presidential one, representatives of the Opposition and Srdcom doma (or Home at Heart) initiative said on Wednesday. Moreover, they added that they were filing a complaint with the Constitutional Court in relation to this. Interior Minister Denisa Saková reacted by stating that her resort was not against voting from abroad, however, it points to many processual obstacles. "You cannot guarantee when it arrives, when it is counted; it can delay the announcement of the results," said Saková.
The first round of the election takes place on March 16, the optional second round is scheduled for March 30.
