Former journalist and ex-member of the Slovak intelligence service SIS, Peter Toth, confirmed that he was a secret witness in the investigation of the murder of investigative journalist Jan Kuciak and his fiancée Martina Kušnirová. Toth made his statement in a video he published on his profile on the social network. He announced that he would no longer be a secret witness, and that he would provide further testimony under his own name as an ordinary witness. In the video Toth distances himself from the murder. He confirmed that he had mediated the surveillance of journalists in the past at the request of businessman Marian Kočner, but did not perform the task himself. According to him, Ján Kuciak was under surveillance for a few days in September and October 2017, a few months before he was murdered. He also admitted personally knowing Alena Sz, one of the arrested suspects in the murder, but denied knowing about its preparations.
