The Government on Wednesday greenlighted its Envirostrategy 2030, a document for guiding Slovakia's environmental policy over the years to come. Drafted within two years by the Environmental Policy Institute (IEP) under the auspices of the Environment Ministry and in cooperation with 160 experts from various fields and the public, the Envirostrategy 2030 targets will be included in other conceptual governmental documents and legislation. "In terms of protecting air from pollution it contains, for instance, support for more efficient heating systems and reducing coal-based energy production. As for waste disposal, we'd like to focus on support for waste collection, prevention and to address illegal landfills," said IEP director Martin Haluš. According to Environment Minister László Sólymos (Most-Hid), the ministry has already carried out some of the measures and plans to be the driving force behind change at other ministries as well.
