Finance Minister to become new central bank governor

President Andrej Kiska will appoint incumbent Finance Minister Peter Kažimír (Smer-SD) to the post of Slovak central bank (NBS) governor, with his new tenure due to start as of June 1. Peter Kažimír (Smer-SD) wants to continue with the modernisation of the Slovak central bank (NBS) as its governor and prepare the institution for new technologies and digitisation. Kažimír pointed out the link between the NBS and the European Central Bank (ECB) in the eurozone, stating that their common responsibility is to secure stability of prices and the health of the banking sector. The post of Central bank vice-governor remains vacant for the time being, as the head of state has not yet made a decision on hopeful Jozef Hudák.
