Ice-hockey club HC Slovan Bratislava currently owes almost €1 million to Bratislava for renting the Ondrej Nepela Arena, which is owned by the Slovak capital. The management of the city is now dealing with the question of how to make use of the premises of the arena in the future. The termination of the lease with the club and making use of the spaces for different events is under consideration. If the club does not pay its debt in the foreseeable future, at the latest by the start of its next season, one of the options will be the termination of all lease contracts with it. HC Slovan Bratislava stated to the TASR news agency that it is aware of the debt and is currently working on clearing it. HC Slovan, which plays in the Russian continental league, had a very bad season. The hockeybuzz blog, which reached out to a KHL executive, writes that Slovan is also in a very bad financial state as of right now and that it cannot operate as it has been doing so for the past few years. The Bratislava based club might be leaving the continental league this summer.
