Italian Prosecutor's Office on suspicious phone calls of Robert Fico

The Italian Prosecutor's Office found in 2012 that Italian businessman Antonino Vadala had a phone call with the then prime minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD). Dennik N daily reported this on Wednesday, referring to the Italian daily La Repubblica. Italian entrepreneur Vadala, who lived and conducted business in eastern Slovakia, was escorted from Slovakia to Italy in May 2018 based on a European arrest warrant. In his country of origin, Vadala is being prosecuted for the criminal offences of illicit trafficking in narcotics and psychotropic drugs, and for participating in a criminal grouping for this purpose. The murdered investigative journalist Ján Kuciak wrote about the activities and contacts of this entrepreneur in Slovakia. In response to the information published by La Repubblica, Smer-SD Chairman and former prime minister Robert Fico denied knowing Antonino Vadala personally. He thinks it is just a deliberate attempt to stir up passions before Thursday's public events commemorating the murder of journalist Ján Kuciak.
