The political scientist and signatory of Charter 77, Miroslav Kusy, died on February 13th at the age of 87. As the Dennik N informed on Wednesday, Kusy died of heart failure. Miroslav Kusý was first a professor of Marxist philosophy in the 1960s and a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Slovakia. After 1969, he was banned from teaching and during the so called normalization period he worked as a librarian at Comenius University. In February 1977, he became the third Slovak signatory of Charter 77 - an informal civic protest initiative. Following that, he was dismissed from the university and worked for many years as a manual labourer. During the 1989 Velvet revolution, Kusý became Deputy of the Public against violence protest movement and in 1990 he was elected Rector of Comenius University in Bratislava.
