Slovakia's banking sector employed 20,649 people as of the end of 2018. According to data released by the Slovak central bank (NBS), this represents a year-on-year increase of 3.4%. The increase in personnel was most significant in commercial banks and in branches of foreign banks. The growth was less pronounced at the central bank itself. The number of employees in the commercial banking sector rose by 3.4% year-on-year, with 17,820 working at the year's end. In branches of foreign banks the number of employees grew by 4.6% to 1,719, while at the central bank the number grew by 1.6% to 1,110. According to the central bank, in its annual comparison, the increase in personnel was brought about mostly by organizational changes taking place in some institutions.
