Police Academy chief withdraws from Constitutional Court race

Lucia Kurilovská, the rector of the Police Academy, has withdrawn her candidacy for the post of Constitutional Court judge, according to TV Markiza. Kurilovská said she had several reasons for her decision, one of them being that she does not like the way the election of Constitutional Court judges is becoming a matter of speculation. She was nominated for the post by Comenius University's Faculty of Law Dean, Eduard Burda. Parliament will choose 18 candidates on Wednesday to be proposed to the President, who will then choose 9 of them to serve as new Constitutional Court judges for a 12 year mandate.
