Slovak MFA: Presidential election in Venezuela not legitimate

The Foreign and European Affairs Ministry is closely following current developments in the Venezuelan political situation, according to its press department. Slovakia's representative didn't take part in the inauguration ceremony of President Nicolas Maduro. "We thus clearly signalled that we don't consider the election, in which Nicolas Maduro became the country's president, to be legitimate and democratic. As part of the EU, Slovakia sees the National Assembly led by Juan Guaido as the legitimate body of democratically elected representatives of the Venezuelan people," said the foreign ministry. According to Slovak diplomats, a way out of the current political situation and profound social crisis, would be to announce and carry out a new presidential election, as a peaceful, inclusive and democratic solution to the situation.
