Italian TV station RAI1 published the first photographs from the surveillance of Ján Kuciak shortly before he was murdered together with his fiancée Martina Kušírová in February 2018. Investigative reporter Maria Grazia Mazzola, who looked into the case, points to Kuciak's work on the scandal concerning claiming Euro funds on land in eastern Slovakia, in which the Italian mafia group 'Ndrangheta is allegedly involved. "The pictures indicate that someone mapped Kuciak's daily routine," wrote the Denník N daily.
According to the daily, Kuciak was followed by the former journalist and former agent of the Slovak Intelligence Agency Peter Tóth on the orders of the controversial businessman Marián Kočner, who is currently being held in custody on suspicion of having committed economic crimes.
