Central Bank: Economy not heading towards crisis

The outgoing Slovak central bank governor Jozef Makuch does not view a slowdown in the eurozone economy as the start of a new crisis. He made this statement at his meeting with President Andrej Kiska on Thursday. According to him, this deceleration can at the moment be viewed as a strengthening of risks and not as the foreshadowing of a crisis. "Naturally, we'll keep monitoring it, and take up a stance on it at the March meeting if necessary," he noted. The two officials did not touch on the issue of candidates for NBS governor and vice-governor posts during their meeting. Makuch, however, disclosed his plans for when he quits his post as NBS governor. "I'll serve as a guest professor at the Economic University's Faculty of the National Economy for the next three years," he said.
