On Tuesday Parliament overrode President Andrej Kiska's veto and approved once again the Gambling Act sponsored by the Finance Ministry. The legislation, originally greenlighted on December 4, is designed to introduce a more stringent set of rules not only for players but also for gambling organisers. The legislation is aimed at adapting to the latest trends of digitisation, which have altered also the gambling industry, and at increasing consumer protection. According to the president, however, the approved bill fails to take into account the fact that the Slovak legal system enshrines constitutional values and principles that call for a considerably sterner regulation of gambling operations going beyond the scope of the bill.
