Slovak President Andrej Kiska has been awarded the Great Gold Medal of Brno's Masaryk University in the Czech Republic. The award was presented to him by Rector Mikuláš Bek on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the university. According to Bek, Kiska hasn't given in to "grey bureaucracy", or to the individuality of vulgar humour and cheap witticisms. In his acceptance speech, Kiska warned against populism and the spreading of hatred and mistrust against state authorities. The medal is awarded by the second largest university in the Czech Republic to important people both from the Czech Republic and abroad, for their merits in promoting democracy.
