Two large manufacturing plants in Slovakia are to trim their staff working hours. The blue-collar staff at Volkswagen will soon join the conditions of those working at U.S. Steel, with their hours being cut from eight down to six.
Despite this, their salaries are expected to stay the same with this being reported as the first positive result of technology modernisation. The car giant realised that a switch from eight to six-hour shifts would enable a production increase. Part of the work done by people until now will be conducted by robots and the factory will reportedly earn more based on higher productivity.
