The parliamentary constitutional committee did not take any stance on the candidacy of Smer-SD chair and former Prime Minister Robert Fico for the post of Constitutional Court judge. All 39 remaining candidates were approved. Votes on the question of whether Fico meets the formal legal conditions or not ended six against six. It is now up to the Speaker of Parliament Andrej Danko (Slovak National Party) to decide whether he will include Fico in the vote of Parliament.
Danko wants the committee to vote again and called on Peter Kresák, one of its members, to take part in the vote. Kresák, of the coalition Most-Hid party did not vote because he is also running for the post of constitutional judge. Later, he gave up his post on the committee and another member of the Most-Híd should replace him. The Coalition and Opposition do not agree on whether the committee should vote again with the Coalition being for and the opposition against.
