On Sunday, the Speaker of Parliament and chair of the junior coalition Slovak National Party Andrej Danko called Lucia Ďuriš Nicholsonová, Deputy Speaker of Parliament, "cigánočka" which is a derogative term which translates as little gipsy. Danko was defending his rigorous thesis in a discussion programme on television, saying that he had obtained his title of doctor legally and that some little gipsy would not try her things on him. Nicholsonová's party, the opposition Freedom and Solidarity, called on the prosecutor's office to examine the statement. They believe that Danko committed the crime of defamation of nation, race, and conviction.
According to an expert committee which investigated suspicions of plagiarism in Danko's rigorous thesis, the scope of the use of the sources exceeds the scope justified by the purpose of the quotation and took over entire paragraphs or chapters from the sources used, without quoting or at least paraphrasing them correctly.
